WUDL Parent Council
"Not coming from the debate world, I had no idea how transformative this experience would be. (My daughter) comes home every day so energized and excited about what she learned, and then spends a couple of hours preparing for the next day. She loved the camaraderie and the friendships she made."
"I’m so glad (my daughter) was able to experience debate this summer. She has learned so much and I have learned so much about the topic. Even more important, I learned why this program has so much meaning and why it’s so important. It’s not just academic. It’s social and emotional and has built a beautiful community."
"Washington Urban Debate has been fundamental to my son becoming the great young man is today. It's built curiosity and an interest in the world around him, and opened him up to so many opportunities we couldn't imagine otherwise. Plus, this is where he's made most of the friends who come over to prepare and hang out on Friday nights."
WUDL Parent Council:
WUDL’s Parent Council has three main goals:
- Volunteer at tournaments and competitions, and coordinate other parents getting involved
- Organize fundraising events, make introductions, and support the growth of the league
- Provide an invaluable feedback mechanism for WUDL Staff to best support teams across the region
Like a PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) at many schools, the WUDL Parent Council brings together parents and guardians from across the region to support the league’s health and growth. We meet every other month in the evenings, and have two standing committees that work on specific largely parent-driven projects to support the league.
- Volunteerism
- Fundraising
We actively recruit a diverse range of parents, wanting every Ward in DC and every corner of Maryland and Alexandria to be represented.
